About the UCRFC
The University of Canterbury Rugby Football Club (UCRFC) celebrated 125 years of rugby history in 2008. The first UCRFC match was played on North Hagley Park in 1883, and since that time the club has produced a large number of representative players: 23 All Blacks, 21 Black Ferns, 162 NZ Universities (men), 161 Canterbury A (men), 65 Canterbury A (women), 6 Crusaders.
The club has developed into an open club serving not only all tertiary students and associates but interested sports persons and families; a club experienced in catering for students away from home, with mentoring, support, understanding and a campus-centred, welcoming clubrooms.
The Club’s mission is to offer students and other interested individuals the opportunity to play rugby at a level they aspire to. To ensure they are properly coached and managed so that they can do so in a safe caring environment. Their self respect and taking part to be as important as being successful.
