Hello and welcome to the 2018 season at UCRFC.
Working Bee
This Saturday 9:30am to 11:30am to give the place a bit of a tidy up prior to the season starting proper. Many hands make light work and it would be great to start the season off with a good turnout from all teams!
Clubrooms Open this Saturday
With three preseason games at Ilam on Saturday, and Uni holidays starting at Easter, the clubrooms will be open from 4pm on Saturday afternoon. As part of this, you’ll be able to see Club Secretary Jaden Wallace lose his dreadlocks for Shave For A Cure – his donations page is
here
Registrations
Thanks to all players who have registered so far, this needs to be sorted before Easter to ensure team management have all their ducks lined up. All scores and match reports are being submitted through the new CRFU App, and part of that means that we need to ensure we have players allocated to the correct teams in advance of the season starting. For those interested, the app can be downloaded for iOS and Android, though there isn’t much in there at the moment.
Subs
Subs are now due. These are $175 for players aged over 21 on 1st Jan 2018 (i.e. you were born in 1996 or earlier), and $150 for those under 21, regardless of the grade played. Your subs keep our club alive, we can’t get by without them!
Part payments are fine, we don’t mind if you pay $10 a week until its done, but we do need to see some money in from all players prior to the season starting on April 7th. If you’re a bit skint and can con your folks into paying for you, go for it.
The bank account number is 01 0833 0077395 00
Please make sure you include your name and team as reference.
Draws
So far the only draws released by CRFU at the Prem and Prem Reserve (Div 1 and Div 2 in the old naming). As soon as we see them, we will pass them on to team management.
Comings and Goings
At exec level, we farewell Ross Callon who has had to resign due to business commitments, and Henry Boon has departed for the bright lights of the Manawatu.
We welcome Dan Smyth onto the exec, and would dearly love another couple to join, preferably current students at UC, as well as anyone who could bring a bit of diversity to the table!
From the women, Keilamarita Pouri-Lane and Lizzie Pera are both off to Japan to ply their trade, and Nicole “Poss” Purdom is currently playing under contract in Ireland, but is due back in June.
Div One has seen a few players depart, Morgyn Cowan and Brad Hemopo have shifted across the ditch to try their luck in the Schute Shield competition in Sydney. Most recently, both Caleb Aperahama and Sam Godwin are off to Dunedin to aim to get into the Otago ITM cup setup. We wish them the best of luck in this endeavour, and will be sad to see them go, though we hope they are successful!
Both have been stalwart members of our Div One squad for a number of years, with Sam captaining the side over the last few seasons. I would like to thank them both for their efforts, and for the example they have consistently set to our younger players.
Know Anyone?
We’re still on the scrounge for a couple of managers, but most importantly a couple of coaches to help out with our Colts B side. Tim B and Dan Smyth are currently carrying the load for both teams on their shoulders at present, so if you know anyone who might like to try life from the other side of the hit shields, please get in touch immediately.
We’d also love one or two people to help out with the running of the social grade competition, which would be due to commence when the uni term starts back.
Non Exec Volunteer Positions
Interested in helping out with the running of our club? Wanting to bulk out your CV a bit? We can help – we’d love someone to take on running our facebook page, someone to do the weekly newsletter (neither are particularly onerous and would be prefect for someone good at spinning yarns), as well as someone to make sure changing shed allocations etc are done for Saturday mornings. Get in touch if you’d like to help out.
Thanks for reading this far!
