Congratulations to the University of Canterbury Women’s team who took out the Canterbury Metro competition on the weekend with a dogged win over Christchurch at Rugby Park.

It was an extremely tense affair with only two points separating the teams at the end 21 -19.

The highlight of the match for me was the composed start to the game from the kick-off, where University received the ball and worked there way down the field phase after phase and finished it off with style, scoring on the left hand side of the field. Talk at the clubrooms about the opening passage of play ended with there being at least 20 phases.

Kendra’s service from the breakdown was epic, but her head high in-goal was something to behold!
